A horrifying murder in broad daylight has sent shockwaves through Karnataka’s Koppal district after a man was chased into a bakery and hacked to death by a group of men. The entire incident was captured on CCTV, revealing the brutal sequence of events that unfolded inside the small shop. The victim, identified as Chenappa Narinal, was reportedly trying to escape his attackers when he rushed into the bakery on May 31. What followed was a violent attack that left no chance for survival.
The footage shows Narinal desperately running in circles within the confined space of the bakery, trying to avoid the group that was relentlessly pursuing him. Despite his efforts, he was caught and struck multiple times with machetes by at least two men, while another individual hit him on the head with a wooden log. The assault continued even as he tried to flee again. He managed to step out of the shop, but was attacked once more, this time by two to three individuals who delivered the final blows.
The assailants fled the scene immediately after the attack, leaving Narinal fatally wounded. Police have arrested seven suspects in connection with the murder — Pramod, Nagaraj, Pradeep, Ravi, Gautam, and two others, both named Manjunath. Officials believe the motive behind the killing is an ongoing property dispute involving the victim and the accused. Authorities have launched a manhunt to trace other individuals suspected to be involved in the attack. The investigation remains active.
The incident has sparked a political row in the state, with opposition leaders criticizing the government’s handling of law and order. BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla took to social media to slam the Congress-led administration, accusing Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy CM DK Shivakumar of being more focused on internal power struggles than public safety. Referring to the Koppal murder and other recent crimes, including the alleged gang rape of a minor in Belagavi, Poonawalla questioned the silence of activist groups and accused the government of ignoring the growing crime rate.
This gruesome incident has once again raised questions over public safety and the state’s ability to maintain law and order, especially as the crime was carried out in a public space and close to a police station. With the investigation ongoing, the spotlight remains on both law enforcement and the political leadership to ensure accountability and justice.
