Delhi: A quiet neighbourhood in North Delhi’s Samaypur Badli has been left reeling after a horrific act of domestic violence claimed the lives of a young mother and her three small children. On Wednesday morning, the bodies of 27-year-old Anita and her daughters—aged five, four, and three—were discovered in their ground-floor home in Chandan Vihar. Anita was reportedly two months pregnant at the time of her death. The primary suspect in the brutal killings is Anita’s husband, Munchun Kewat, a vegetable vendor at the nearby Azadpur Mandi, who has since disappeared, sparking a city-wide manhunt.
The scale of the violence only came to light around 8:00 AM when Kewat’s 10-year-old nephew arrived at the residence. The boy had come to fetch his uncle for a trip to the market, only to find the main gate locked from the outside. Upon entering the house, he discovered his aunt and cousins lying in a pool of blood. Local authorities described the scene as exceptionally disturbing, confirming that all four victims had their throats slit with a sharp weapon. The precision and brutality of the attack have led police to consider the possibility that the victims may have been drugged or incapacitated before the assault, as neighbors reported hearing no screams or calls for help during the night.
While the Delhi Police are exploring various angles, including financial stress and domestic disputes, a chilling theory has emerged regarding the motive. Initial inquiries suggest the suspect may have been driven by a deep-seated desire for a male heir, though officials emphasize that the investigation is still in its preliminary stages. The couple, originally from Patna, Bihar, had moved to the capital two years ago. While relatives noted that the pair did not have a history of frequent or public conflict, neighbors did report hearing a sharp argument between the two on Tuesday evening.
Munchun Kewat was last seen on CCTV footage fleeing the neighborhood in the early hours of Wednesday morning. His mobile phone was later traced to the Jahangirpuri area before being switched off, complicating the search efforts. The Delhi Police have officially registered a murder case under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and multiple specialized teams have been deployed across the city and toward his hometown in Bihar to track his movements. For now, a community is left searching for answers as they mourn the loss of four young lives taken in the very place they should have been safest.
