A mid-morning fire at a prominent commercial building in Hyderabad’s Jubilee Hills sparked temporary chaos on Thursday, sending thick plumes of smoke across one of the city’s busiest stretches. The incident occurred at the Mangalagowri showroom located on Road No. 36, a hub known for its high-end retail outlets.
The alarm was raised around 11:20 am when flames were spotted at the building, which is easily recognizable for its unique glass façade designed to resemble a temple gopuram. At the time of the fire, the premises were undergoing extensive renovation work. This proved to be a fortunate circumstance regarding inventory, as officials confirmed the building was largely empty of merchandise, preventing what could have been a much more significant financial loss.
Emergency response teams moved quickly as the smoke began to obstruct visibility along the main road. Two fire engines were initially dispatched to the site, while local police worked to manage the surging crowd of onlookers and clear traffic to ensure the fire tenders had an unobstructed path. The primary concern for firefighters was the building’s exterior design; the glass and structural elements appeared to intensify the heat, making the flames visible from a considerable distance.
Safety remained the priority throughout the operation. Five workers who were on-site for the renovation were successfully evacuated from the building as soon as the fire was detected. Because the showroom was not yet open to the public, no customers were present, and authorities have since confirmed that there were no injuries or casualties resulting from the blaze.
While the fire was eventually brought under control and prevented from leaping to adjacent businesses, the exact trigger for the spark remains unclear. Fire department officials have launched a formal investigation to determine whether the fire was linked to the ongoing construction activities or a technical fault. For now, the site remains cordoned off as investigators assess the structural integrity of the iconic facade.
